You need to have specific resources available to you so you can help understand your skills and how they apply in the market place you are in. You also want to understand what all the trends are and figure out where you fit in with them. Even if you think you have no clue about the new trends you still need to start understanding them. This may be your saving grace in days, weeks, months or years to come.
With your career planning information you can build your survival kit. Simply put this is just a portfolio of what you can do. It has all the tools you would need to start over if the time ever comes. Having this in your plan would make things easier if for some reason tomorrow you woke up and had to go out and get a new career.
